# RATE_LIMITED

> RATE_LIMITED means an API key sent more than 100 requests in 10 seconds to createImage or signed URLs. Wait until the time in the message, then try again.

Canonical: https://bannerify.co/docs/api-reference/errors/code/RATE_LIMITED

## Problem

The API key sent more than 100 requests in a 10-second window to `createImage` or to signed URLs. The API sends status 500 with the message `You are rate limited, please wait until` followed by a time. The time is a Unix timestamp in milliseconds.

The PDF and stored file endpoints report the same condition as [`TOO_MANY_REQUESTS`](https://bannerify.co/docs/api-reference/errors/code/TOO_MANY_REQUESTS). The counter is per API key and per group of endpoints, and [Quota and limits](https://bannerify.co/docs/account/quota#rate-limits) lists the groups.

## Solution

Wait until the time in the message, then send the request again. Responses to `createImage`, `createPdf`, and signed URLs carry a `RateLimit-Remaining` header and a `RateLimit-Reset` header, so you can slow down before you reach the limit.

For a bulk job, limit the number of requests in flight, and retry with a short delay in place of a tight loop. Save a result and reuse it when the same image is needed again. A [signed URL](https://bannerify.co/docs/essentials/signed-urls) that the cache serves does not count toward the limit.
