How do I convert AVIF to PNG?

Add your AVIF files to the converter on this page. PNG is already selected, so each file converts as soon as you add it. Then download each PNG, or download all of them as one ZIP.

Is this AVIF to PNG converter free?

Yes. You need no account, and there is no limit on the number of files, because your own computer does the work. The PNG files have no watermark.

Are my AVIF files uploaded to a server?

No. The converter runs libvips, an open-source image library, in your browser with WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device.

Does the PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG stores transparency, so a transparent AVIF stays transparent in the PNG.

Does it open 10-bit and 12-bit AVIF files?

Yes. A 10-bit or 12-bit AVIF becomes a 16-bit PNG, so the PNG keeps the extra color steps. An 8-bit AVIF becomes an 8-bit PNG.

Why is the PNG so much larger than the AVIF?

AVIF compresses photos much more than PNG does. In our test, AVIF photos became PNGs 20 to 60 times larger. The table shows the change in size for each file. For a smaller file that most apps open, choose JPEG.

Does converting to PNG make the image better?

No. PNG is lossless, so the PNG keeps every pixel of the AVIF, but it cannot bring back detail that the AVIF already lost. It looks the same as the AVIF.

Why do my images save as AVIF?

Many websites send AVIF images to browsers that can show them, because the files are small. When you save an image from such a site, you get the AVIF file. Convert it here to use it in any app.

When should I choose PNG instead of JPG?

Choose PNG for images with a transparent background, for logos and screenshots, and for images that you will edit again, because each PNG save keeps every pixel. Choose JPG for photos that you only want to share or upload.

How do I get PNG images from my app?

A Bannerify template renders to PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. You choose the format in each API request, so your app gets PNG files with no conversion step.

Is this tool open source?

Yes. The source code is on GitHub at ducan-ne/image-converter, under the MIT license. You can read how it works, report a problem, or run it yourself.

Doing this a thousand times?

A Bannerify template renders your images as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one API call, so your app never converts files by hand.
