How do I convert pixels to inches?

Divide the pixels by the DPI (pixels per inch). At 96 DPI, 1920 pixels are 20 inches. At 300 DPI, the same 1920 pixels are 6.4 inches. Enter the pixels and the DPI above to get the inches, centimeters, and millimeters.

How many pixels are in an inch?

It depends on the DPI. CSS and most screens use 96 pixels for each inch. A print at 300 DPI uses 300 pixels for each inch, and a print at 150 DPI uses 150. A pixel has no fixed size until you choose the DPI.

Which DPI should I use?

For a web page or CSS, use 96, because CSS defines 1 inch as 96 pixels. For a print, use the DPI of the print: 300 for photos, flyers, and cards, and 150 for large posters seen from afar. When a print shop asks for a DPI, use the value that it asks for.

How big is 1080 pixels in inches?

3.6 inches (9.14 cm) at 300 DPI, 7.2 inches at 150 DPI, and 11.25 inches at 96 DPI. So a 1080 × 1080 pixel image prints sharp at 3.6 × 3.6 inches.

How large can I print my photo?

For a sharp print, divide the width and the height in pixels by 300. A 12 MP phone photo of 4032 × 3024 pixels prints at about 13.4 × 10.1 inches at 300 DPI. The table above shows more sizes, and the image DPI checker reads the pixels and the DPI of your file.

Is an inch in CSS the same as a real inch?

Not always. CSS defines 1 inch as 96 CSS pixels, and each device decides how large a CSS pixel is. So on a phone or a high-density screen, a CSS inch is often not one real inch. On paper, the DPI of the print sets the real size.

How do I convert pixels to centimeters or millimeters?

Divide the pixels by the DPI to get inches, then multiply by 2.54 for centimeters or by 25.4 for millimeters. At 300 DPI, 1000 pixels are 3.333 inches, 8.467 cm, and 84.667 mm. The converter shows all of them at once.

Does the DPI change the pixels of my image?

No. The DPI in an image file only tells a printer how large to print the pixels. To set it, for example to 300, use the free DPI converter: it changes the DPI and keeps every pixel.

Is this converter free?

Yes, and you need no account. The converter runs in your browser, so nothing that you type leaves your device.
