How do I check the DPI of an image?
Choose the image above: the checker shows its DPI, its size in pixels, and its print size. On Windows, right-click the file, choose Properties, then Details: the Image section shows the horizontal and vertical resolution. On a Mac, open the image in Preview and choose Tools > Show Inspector.
What does DPI mean for a digital image?
DPI means dots per inch. A digital image has pixels, and the DPI in the file tells a printer how many of them go into one inch. So the DPI sets the print size: 3000 pixels at 300 DPI print 10 inches wide. On a screen, the DPI does nothing, because a screen shows the pixels.
Why does my image say 72 DPI?
Many phones, cameras, and apps write 72 DPI into the file, and many apps show 72 when the file stores no value. The number does not change the pixels. To print the image at a known size, set the DPI that you need, for example 300: enter it above, or use the DPI converter.
What DPI do I need for printing?
300 DPI for photos, flyers, cards, and other prints seen up close. 150 DPI is often enough for large posters and banners seen from a few meters. For a screen, the DPI does not matter.
How many pixels do I need for a 300 DPI print?
Multiply each side in inches by 300. A 4 × 6 inch photo needs 1200 × 1800 pixels, and 8 × 10 inches needs 2400 × 3000 pixels. A4 paper needs about 2480 × 3508 pixels, the size of the print templates in the free certificate generator.
Which files can it check?
JPEG and PNG files. It reads the DPI fields that apps write: JFIF, EXIF, XMP, and Photoshop data in a JPEG, and the pHYs chunk, EXIF, and XMP in a PNG. For a WebP, AVIF, GIF, or TIFF file, convert it to JPG or PNG first.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The checker reads the file in your browser, and the image never leaves your device.
