How do I convert PNG to WebP?
Add your PNG images to the converter on this page. WebP is already selected, so each image converts as soon as you add it. Then download each WebP, or download all of them as one ZIP.
Is this PNG to WebP converter free?
Yes. You need no account, and there is no limit on the number of images, because your own computer does the work. The WebP files have no watermark.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The converter runs libvips, an open-source image library, in your browser with WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device.
How much smaller is the WebP?
It depends on the image. In our test, PNG photos became WebP files 10 to 30 times smaller, a transparent logo about 20 times smaller, and PNG screenshots that were already compressed 2 to 3 times smaller. The table shows the change in size for each file.
Does the WebP keep the transparent background?
Yes. WebP stores transparency, so a transparent PNG stays transparent in the WebP.
Is the WebP lossless?
No. The converter saves lossy WebP at quality 82 of 100, which is why the files are so small. The WebP looks the same as the PNG at normal size, but it is not an exact copy of every pixel. Keep the PNG if you will edit the image again.
Why convert PNG to WebP?
Smaller images make web pages load faster, and page speed is part of how Google ranks pages. All current browsers show WebP, so you can use it for the images of a website, a blog, or an online store.
Can I convert JPG to WebP too?
Yes. The converter takes JPG, PNG, GIF, AVIF, and TIFF images, so you can add JPG files here and they convert to WebP the same way.
How do I convert WebP back to PNG?
Use the WebP to PNG converter. The PNG keeps every pixel of the WebP, but it cannot bring back detail that the lossy WebP did not keep.
How do I get WebP images from my app?
A Bannerify template renders to PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. You choose the format in each API request, so your app gets WebP files with no conversion step.
Is this tool open source?
Yes. The source code is on GitHub at ducan-ne/image-converter, under the MIT license. You can read how it works, report a problem, or run it yourself.
Doing this a thousand times?
A Bannerify template renders your images as WebP, PNG, JPEG, or PDF from one API call, so your app never converts files by hand.
