How do I convert WebP to PNG?

Add your WebP images to the converter on this page. PNG is already selected, so each image converts as soon as you add it. Then download each PNG, or download all of them as one ZIP.

Is this WebP to PNG converter free?

Yes. You need no account, and there is no limit on the number of images, because your own computer does the work. The PNG files have no watermark.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The converter runs libvips, an open-source image library, in your browser with WebAssembly. Your images never leave your device.

Does the PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG stores transparency, so a transparent WebP stays transparent in the PNG.

Does converting to PNG make the image better?

No. PNG is lossless, so the PNG keeps every pixel of the WebP, but it cannot bring back detail that a lossy WebP already lost. It looks the same as the WebP.

Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?

WebP compresses images much more than PNG does. In our test, a lossy WebP photo became a PNG 11 to 15 times larger. The table shows the change in size for each file. For a smaller file that most apps open, choose JPEG.

What happens to an animated WebP?

The PNG has the first frame only, because a PNG holds one still image.

Why convert WebP to PNG?

Some apps and sites do not open WebP, such as older image editors, some print services, and some upload forms. Almost every app opens PNG. PNG is also a good format to edit, because each save keeps every pixel.

Can I convert WebP to JPG instead?

Yes. Choose JPEG in the format list before you add the images. A JPG is smaller than a PNG, but it has no transparency.

How do I get PNG images from my app?

A Bannerify template renders to PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. You choose the format in each API request, so your app gets PNG files with no conversion step.

Is this tool open source?

Yes. The source code is on GitHub at ducan-ne/image-converter, under the MIT license. You can read how it works, report a problem, or run it yourself.

Doing this a thousand times?

A Bannerify template renders your images as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one API call, so your app never converts files by hand.
