How do I convert TIFF to PNG?
Add your TIFF files to the converter on this page. PNG is already selected, so each file converts as soon as you add it. Then download each PNG, or download all of them as one ZIP.
Does the PNG keep the quality of the TIFF?
Yes. PNG is lossless, like most TIFF files, so the PNG keeps every pixel. A 16-bit TIFF stays 16-bit in the PNG.
Is TIF the same as TIFF?
Yes. TIF and TIFF are two extensions of the same format, the Tagged Image File Format. The converter reads both.
Is this TIFF to PNG converter free?
Yes. You need no account, and there is no limit on the number of files, because your own computer does the work. The PNG files have no watermark.
Are my TIFF files uploaded to a server?
No. The converter runs libvips, an open-source image library, in your browser with WebAssembly. Your scans and photos never leave your device.
Does the PNG keep the transparent background?
Yes. PNG stores transparency, so the transparent parts of the TIFF stay transparent.
Is the PNG smaller than the TIFF?
It depends on the compression of the TIFF. In our test, a TIFF with no compression became a PNG 26% smaller, and a TIFF with LZW compression became a PNG 18% larger. For photos, a JPG is much smaller than both, but it loses some detail.
What happens to a TIFF with more than one page?
The PNG has the first page only, because a PNG holds one image.
Can I convert TIFF to JPG instead?
Yes. Use the TIFF to JPG converter, or choose JPEG in the format list before you add the files.
How do I get PNG images from my app?
A Bannerify template renders to PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. You choose the format in each API request, so your app gets PNG files with no conversion step.
Is this tool open source?
Yes. The source code is on GitHub at ducan-ne/image-converter, under the MIT license. You can read how it works, report a problem, or run it yourself.
Doing this a thousand times?
A Bannerify template renders your images as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one API call, so your app never converts files by hand.
