Edit templates with AI
Learn how to use the AI tab of the template editor to create and change a design from a prompt.
The AI tab of the template editor changes your canvas for you. You write what you want, and the AI reads the canvas, then adds, moves, and changes layers. Everything it makes is a normal layer, so you can keep editing it by hand and send it values in API requests.
This is useful when you start a template from a blank canvas, or when you want to change many layers at once.
Prerequisites
- AI credits in your workspace. Each plan includes credits every month, and you can buy more. AI credits lists the prices.
Send a prompt
- Open a template in the editor.
- In the right panel, click the AI tab.
- Write what you want, for example “An Instagram post for a summer sale, 1080×1080”. With an empty chat, the tab also shows sample prompts. Click one to put it in the message box.
- Press Enter.
The AI shows each step while it works. When it is done, the reply ends with a summary: how long it worked, how many layers it created and changed, and the credits it used.
To stop a reply, click the stop button. When you type a new message while the AI works, the send button queues it, and the AI reads it after its current step.
Work on selected layers
Select layers on the canvas before you write. The message box lists them under Selected, and the AI works on them. Click the × of a layer to leave it out of the next message.
- To name one layer in your message, type
@and pick the layer from the list. - To start from the canvas, right-click a layer and choose Ask AI. The AI tab opens with the layer selected.
Use commands
Type / in the message box to see the commands. /new starts a new chat at once. The other commands put a prompt in the message box, so you can change it before you send it.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/new |
Starts a new chat |
/clear |
Asks the AI to clear the canvas |
/describe |
Asks the AI to describe what is on the canvas |
/improve |
Asks the AI to improve the layout and keep your layers and content |
Choose a model
Choose the model under the message box. The editor keeps your choice for the next chats.
| Model | Credits | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| DeepSeek V4 Pro | About 1 to 3 credits per reply | New designs and big changes. This is the default |
| DeepSeek V4 Flash | Under 1 credit per reply | Small edits |
When you open an old chat, the editor switches to the model of that chat.
Add images
Paste an image into the message box, drop it on the AI tab, or click Attach images. You can attach up to 4 PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF images of up to 10 MB each. When you send the message, Bannerify saves the images in your Media, and the AI can place them on the canvas.
Generate images in the chat
Ask for a picture, for example “Generate a photo of a coffee cup on a wooden table and put it on the canvas”. The AI asks before it generates an image: a panel shows the prompt, the model, and the price.
- Click Generate to make the image, or Skip to say no.
- Select Don’t ask again in this chat to let the AI generate images without asking until you start a new chat.
The image is saved in your Media. The AI usually puts it on the canvas. If it does not, click Add to canvas under the image. An image costs the same as in the Generate image window: 8 credits with Nano Banana and 30 credits with Nano Banana Pro.
Check the credits
Each reply uses credits for the text that the model reads and writes. A long chat, or a canvas with many layers, costs more, because the model reads them again at each step.
- The summary under a reply shows the credits it used.
- The meter at the top of the message box shows the credits you have left. Click it to see your monthly credits, the reset date, and your purchased credits, or to buy more.
When you run out of credits, the AI tab shows You’re out of AI credits and a Buy credits button. A message that could not start goes back to the message box, so you can send it again after you buy credits.
Open an old chat
Bannerify keeps the chats of each template. To open an old chat, click Chat history at the top of the AI tab and pick the chat. To start again, click New chat. A message that you did not send stays in the message box when you leave the template and come back.
Next steps
- AI credits explains the monthly credits, the packs, and the history.
- Design a template covers the rest of the editor.
- Modifications shows how a request changes the layers that the AI made.
